Reasons for using antimicrobials in feed on U.S. cattle feedlots in 2016
There are various reasons for using antimicrobials in cattle feed on U.S. feedlots. As of 2016, the most common reason for using antimicrobials in cattle feed for use on feedlots was for growth promotion and a combination of growth promotion and liver abscess prevention/treatment. The percentage of cattle that were treated with antimicrobial feed for growth promotion or a combination of growth promotion and liver abscess treatment/prevention was 35.9 and 30.4 percent, respectively.
