Sales volume of leading car markets APAC 2019, by country
Leading manufacturing brands
The Asia Pacific region is widely known for its impressive vehicle manufacturing, with the likes of Japan, China, and South Korea dominating the automotive industry. Toyota Motor Corporation stands as the leading Asian car manufacturer, demonstrating increasing income throughout the past decade. Judging by Toyota’s impressive income, it certainly seems believable that it was ranked the tenth largest company globally by revenue. The automotive manufacturer amassed a staggering 272 U.S. dollars’ worth of revenue in 2019. Competing with Toyota are the likes of the South Korean-founded companies Hyundai Motor Company and its partly owned subsidiary, Kia Motors Corporation. These two companies stand as South Korea’s largest and second-largest automobile manufacturers respectively.
Increasing demand?
Through rising populations, there has been increased demand on the Asia Pacific automotive industry. From 2006 to 2017 the Asia Pacific region experienced a surge in passenger car sales. Along with passenger cars, commercial vehicle sales have seen a dramatic increase throughout the region from 2015. Although it cannot be denied that the Asia Pacific automotive industry has seen impressive improvements, throughout recent years there has been increased consciousness of the environmental implications vehicles have on the planet. As such, the ASEAN region experienced a dip in sales in 2019, possibly due to increased consumer awareness.
