Development & adoption timelines for select global energy-innovation technologies
Prototypes for capturing carbon dioxide emissions in natural gas based steelmaking have been in the works since before the 1950s and are only expected to reach one percent market share after 2030. This would make this particular energy innovation technology one with the longest adoption timeline, of 102 years. By comparison, the industry has only begun to focus on capturing emissions from cement productions after 2000, and will likely see an initial adoption later this decade, after only 18 years of research and development.
