unemployment rate in Brazil has experienced a continual increase, reaching the highest figure in recent years. This result was mostly related to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in the country. As of September 26 2020, there were more than 14 million people unemployed in Brazil, out which nearly 45 percent were located in the country's southeast region (where the largest cities are located). The northeast region ranked second, with around 3.9 million people unemployed at that point in time.
