In fiscal year 2018, petroleum had the largest share in primary energy demand in Japan, reaching 39 percent. It was estimated to decrease to about 34 percent in fiscal year 2030. By comparison, nuclear energy constituted the smallest share in primary energy demand, making up only four percent. It was estimated to increase to around 14 percent in fiscal year 2030.
