Press freedom index in Hong Kong 2015-2024
In 2024, Hong Kong's press freedom index was further down to 43.06 points, which was classified as a difficult situation. This marks a major decline of the freedom level of journalists in the city under the implementation of a National Security Law by Beijing followed by corresponding measures to silence various independent voices. Between 2013 and 2024, Hong Kong's press freedom ranking fell from 58th place to 135th among all 180 surveyed countries and regions.
