Food security performance in South Africa from 2012-2022
In 2022, the overall food security environment score for South Africa fell to 61.7 points. This was an improvement compared to the previous year when the country punctuated 57.88 points. During the period in review, South Africa scored its highest punctuation in the overall security index in 2016. Food affordability, availability, quality and safety, as well as sustainability and adaptation made up the four major categories of the Global Food Security Index (GFSI).
