Of the 148,600 financial and professional service industry jobs in Scotland, 33 percent were based in the capital Edinburgh in 2012, amounting to 49,500 people. In 2012, 39.4 thousand of people worked in banking in all of Scotland; by 2015, this number grew to 45 thousand. An increase of six thousand was also noted in management consulting, which was part of professional services in support of the financial industry. However, a stark decrease was reflected in numbers employed in legal services, from nearly 28 thousand in 2012 to 19 thousand people in 2015.
