The statistic shows the most costly winter storms for the insurance industry in Europe from 1980 to 2014. Apart from the costs to the insurance industry, total losses have also been included for reference. The winter storm Martin, which hit France, Spain and Switzerland on the 27th and 28th of December,1999, caused insured losses of 2.5 billion U.S. dollars. The total losses were estimated at around 4.1 billion U.S. dollars.
