Asia Pacific has largest SPAR stores
Generally speaking, the largest SPAR supermarkets could be found in the Asia Pacific region, where the average size per supermarket was nearly 1,700 square meters. Europe had the smallest supermarkets. Even though stores in Germany were exceptionally small, the average Western European SPAR was still less than 400 square meters.
UK has largest number of SPAR supermarkets
In total, there were roughly 13,000 SPAR stores worldwide. In its country of origin, the Netherlands, SPAR had 456 stores in 2019. In the United Kingdom the retailer operated more than five times as many stores, making the UK the country with the largest number of SPAR supermarkets. It was Austria however where SPAR was most successful in terms of sales, as the Austrian market alone was worth 7.2 billion euros in 2019. By comparison, in Thailand the retail sales value amounted to just 13.8 million.
