The United States is one of the biggest markets for the smartphone industry worldwide. In 2017 alone, smartphone shipments in North America amounted to more than 200 million units. Smartphone sales in the United States generated more than 55 billion U.S. dollars in revenues in 2017.
Samsung and Apple are the two main vendors in the U.S. smartphone market. In the first quarter of 2018, Apple and Samsung accounted for more than 60 percent of U.S. smartphones sales. Almost 75 percent of smartphone subscribers in the United States use either an Apple or Samsung smartphone in April 2018. Almost all of the smartphone subscribers in the United States use the Android or iOS operating system on their smartphone. The combined market share of the Blackberry and Microsoft mobile operating systems stood below two percent in April 2018.
