E-commerce in Czechia - statistics & facts

Global e-commerce sales have increased in recent years, although their tempo has dropped over the past few years. Based on Czechia's annual e-commerce turnover, the country's e-commerce undoubtedly follows this trend. However, it saw its first turnover decline in 2022 compared to the previous year, most likely due to the energy crisis that started that year and the sharp increases during the last years. The coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has accelerated this growth of Czech e-commerce, causing a dramatic transition of various industries to the online environment.
The fact that Czechs quickly get used to and enjoy online shopping is evident from the obtained data. The share of Czechs shopping online is growing among adults and internet users. However, there are no significant changes in the proportion of individuals selling goods and services online and searching for information about goods and services online. Characteristics of Czech e-commerce users

On the demand side, Czechs buy a wide range of goods in terms of products purchased online. However, the most popular are clothes and shoes. Google shopping search queries confirm this trend, as most Czechs look up shoe or clothing brands, such as Nike, Jordan, and Adidas, or general terms such as “boty” (meaning shoes) or “mikina” (sweatshirt). Another category of goods that people often search for is electronics, such as Samsung and Apple products. The share of enterprises that make B2C e-commerce sales via a website and those that make B2B and B2G e-commerce sales is below 20 percent by a few percentage points, indicating a stable supply-side situation. Free shipping is the main motivating factor for Czechs to shop online.
