At the time of the Japanese House of Councillors regular election in 2019, there were around 54.7 million female and 51.2 million male eligible voters. The voting rate was about 48.2 percent for female voters and 49.4 percent for male voters. The House of Councillors is the upper house of the Japanese parliament. Once elected, members have six years of terms of service. Half of the members of the house are replaced in a regular election conducted once in three years.
