Global forest breakdown by climatic domain 2020
Forests cover 31 percent of the world's total land area but they are not equally distributed across the globe. The tropical climatic domain accounts for the largest proportion of forests worldwide, around 45 percent, followed by the boreal domain, with 27 percent of the global forest area. Ranking last are the temperate and subtropical climatic domains, which represent 16 and 11 percent, respectively, of the world's forest area.
