Japan: most sustainable fashion companies 2023

The most sustainable fashion company according to the Sustainable Brand Index in Japan in 2023 was Fast Retailing. The Japanese outdoor company behind the fashion brands "UNIQLO" and "GU" received a Sustainable Brand Index score of almost 108 points, based on consumer opinions of the company's sustainable brand image and contribution to Sustainable Development Goals.

*15,600 consumers were surveyed six times. Each survey group included 52 companies, totaling 312 companies over the entire survey period. The sample for one company within one group was randomized and included 300 respondents.

The index was calculated based on the "image score of contributing to SDGs" and the "SDGs evaluation score". The original questions were as follows:

Image score: "For the following company, if you were to assign a score for "contribution to SDGs", what score would you give it on a scale of 0 to 100?"

Evaluation score for a list of 30 issues: "Do you think it is important for companies to address the following issues?"
"For the following companies, do you think they are working on these issues? Please answer for each company."
