French opinion on the responsibility for the violence in demonstrations France 2023
In 2023, France went through an important movement of protests against the pension reform carried out by Emmanuel Macron's government. During the Spring of 2023, some demonstrations were affected by violent actions. According to a survey conducted in this context in April 2023, 38 percent of the French respondents believed the government was responsible for the violent acts that happened during the protests. On the other hand, 25 percent of those surveyed thought the protesters themselves were the ones to be held accountable for the violence, and only seven percent of the respondents believed the police were responsible.
